Deniz Demir is the protagonist of Avlu: The Yard. She is a young woman who met and married a young musician Hakan while in university. After giving birth to her daughter, she starts to endure domestic violence. Her turbulent life takes a dramatic turn when her daughter tries to shoot Hakan in an effort to protect her mother. Deniz takes her daughter's charges of attempted murder and is sent to a prison led in the midst of a power struggle between Azra Kaya and Kudret Ozturk, where she must choose a side to survive prison.[1]
